Ambassadors Notes – Sunday, June 17, 2007
Sunday was another great day in our class and in the church services. We had some great discussions in our ABF. I also enjoyed pastor Kisners sermon and discussion in the Celebration service and the Vacation Bible School presentations in the evening.
Don’t forget to check out the next entry and others throughout the coming weeks and months to see if you can guess who our person of the week is. She is a doll, isn’t she! Please send photos of yourselves, spouses, or others if you think you can stump the class. I think childhood and costume photos will work best.
Let's move on to the important stuff:
Prayer list
Health
- Jerry S will have pancreatic surgery Tuesday just before noon. Pray for his health and also for wisdom for his surgeon. Jerry expects to be in the hospital about 5 days. Updated 6/22/2007 - Jerry came through the surgery very well and the biopsy is negative. Praise the Lord! He is having a lot of pain; so continue to pray for him during the recovery process.
- Continue to pray for Kelie Lee who was seriously injured in a bicycle accident. She is in a coma but continuing to improve.
- Kay B reported that the doctors have changed Ben’s medication and believe this was part of his problem.
- Lindsay A was in VBS last week but still needs prayer for her health as she continues chemotherapy. Sunday she went to the ER and was admitted but still plans to go to Summer Camp today directly from the hospital. Here is a link to her CaringBridge blog. Thanks to Rudy and Hallie for providing this.
- Continue to pray for Betty O and her chemotherapy. Update 06/22/2007 - Lindsay is in camp and having lots of fun.
- Pray for Dennis’ mom. She had knee replacement surgery on Wednesday; then she will go to a nursing home for recuperation. Update 6/22/2007 - Ruth has had some complications. Please pray for her recovery.
- Mike F’s brother has MS.
- Marilyn D’s daughter and stepdaughter (Megan and Tabby) are pregnant and need our prayers during this time.
Salvation
- Continue to pray for the Rudy and Hallie’s son Brian and for his wife Gladis and their new baby. They need to be involved in a good church.
- Pray for the kids who made decisions for Christ during the VBS last week. Also, some of the parents showed interest.
Work
- Dianne S asked for prayer for her daughter and her work situation; perhaps they can work out something so she does not need to work.
- Georgia has a couple of leads on jobs. Pray that one of these will turn into an offer.
- Danny will be meeting with someone about the sale of his business this Wednesday. Pray for the Lord’s leading.
- John and Sandy will be doing their Christian School seminars again this summer. Pray for Sandy during this time.
Church
- Continue to pray for our Lord’s leading in the building program. We will vote
- on the project on the 24th and (Lord willing) break ground on July 1st.
- Pray for the staff and board as they determine next steps.
- Pray that additional funds will come in. Last Sunday was the first weekend after schools closed, so perhaps a significant number of members were away.
Missionaries
- Larry and Nancy A will be here in Dayton (passing through) this week. I will take him to Detroit to purchase a car and they will be going on to Pennsylvania. Pray for safety and refreshment during this short time of furlough.
- Jeff and Kelsey E will also be returning to Colorado shortly. Hopefully they will visit here, too.
- The Smiths will be going back to Nicaragua on July 12 for one month. During the time they are away we would like to do some painting for them. They would like to have several rooms painted before the installation of new carpet. This time would be an excellent time to do this as a service for our Lord and for them. If you are interested in helping, please contact either Dave D or myself to signup. We will discuss dates, etc. later.
Miscellaneous
- Fola and Pauline’s son may be deployed again to Iraq or Afghanistan
- Dennis will be speaking this week in Orlando about “Using Scripture in Moral Debate”.
Visitors
This week we had visitors all the way from Nigeria. Fola’s cousin and his wife were here with us.
Birthdays
- Dianne Simmerman – Tuesday, June 19th
- Carol Nims – Saturday, June 23rd
Class Bible Study
Sunday we turned again to James chapter 1. In verse 22 we read “Be doers of the Word, and not hearers only”. We also continued discussing verses 2 through 5.
- Verse 2 - Count it all joy
- Verse 3 - Know testing develops perseverance
- Verse 4 – Let steadfastness (perseverance) have full effect
- Verse 5 - Ask for wisdom
We took several interesting detours but the discussion was good and worthwhile. One of these was “retribution theology”. Fola made a good comment about this; “We can never explain God or put ourselves in His place.”
If we don’t struggle or suffer persecution, we may need to question our witness effectiveness.
We look forward to continuing this study in James.
Reminder: Don’t forget to contact either David Darkow or myself if you can help with the painting project for the Smiths in July!
