Ambassadors ABF Notes for Sunday, August 26

Remember, we will not have our class for the next two Sundays. Next week is the Celebration in the Park. For any that are not familiar with this, it is at Stubbs Park, named after a deceased former member. The park is located off of Spring Valley Pike, less than ½ mile west of Hwy 48 (South Main Street, Centerville). Look for the Monkey House! In the event of rain, the service will be moved to the sanctuary. Check the WHBC.org website, if it looks like a rain possibility. We will have a picnic lunch together (hopefully in a shelter) after the service. Bring something to share with the class and some of the Cedarville students. Drinks and tableware will be provided. I will try to get there early to get the shelter for our class, but cannot promise that will happen. If not, we will try to round up a sufficient number of tables in one area near the shelter. I will need help doing this.

The following Sunday (Sept. 9) is part of the Global Focus Seminar. Since we won’t have our class for a couple of weeks, you should send any prayer items by email to either John and Sandy or to me. We will continue to post this news/prayer letter via email during this time. Lord willing, we would also update our AmbassadorsABF Blog.

Dates to Remember

  • Sept. 2 (10 AM) – Celebration in the Park (Leonard E Stubbs Park)
  • Sept. 2 (4:30 PM) – 1st Annual WHBC Golf Scramble
  • Sept. 7-9 – Global Focus Seminar
  • Nov, 2 – Ambassadors visit to the Creation Museum (probably leave church at 8:30 AM). We may also plan to eat dinner or desert somewhere together after the visit.
Class Notes

We had another good turnout this week. I think the number was two less than last week; but as promised, we did have more chairs. So, don’t be afraid of having to sit on the floor.

Our offering this week goes for literature to be sent with the care packages to our soldiers in the Middle East. We will collect for this again the next time we meet and that should give us enough to cover this cost.

As I mentioned last week, we discussed an opportunity to support the Holders (Trevor & Jenni) with the Navigators at UD. Jenni is the daughter of the Wally and Karen Hoppe. They are extremely under-supported (only 50%) and Trevor must work to support his family. This reduces his opportunity for ministry with the students. We should discuss this further the next time we meet and make a decision concerning support. Your comments are welcome.

I also mentioned a need at the Women’s Center for baby products such as cribs, strollers, infant car seats, high chairs, bedding, etc. I am not suggesting that we do something for this as a class project but mentioned it so you can pray and perhaps take this on as individual projects or perhaps get together with several others for an item. Unfortunately, this is needed by Sept. 12. You can call the Center (Mary Ann Smith) for more details or talk with my wife, Nancy.

Sunday, Dennis continued our study in James. This week we discussed James 1:22-25. We are commanded to Be Doers of the Word and not just Hearers of the words. He also reminded us that the Word of God is the perfect law – the Law of Liberty. John 8:31-36 tells us “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Larry Smith reminded us that our relationship is to be with Christ not the book (Word).

Prayer Requests and Praises

Randy (Simmerman’s son-in-law) starts work at Honda. Pray for him that he will do well in this job.
I received an email from Dan Miller. He took a test and may have a job opportunity.
Dan W’s business deal did not get completed last week as hoped. Continue to pray for Dan and this situation.
Friend of Georgia K, Brent, has cancer.
Link came through bypass surgery and is recovering at home.
Lynn P also asked for pray for a little girl with severe seizures. She is three and is related to one of her co-workers. Her parents have expressed thanks for our concern and prayers. It will take a real miracle for this little one to pull through this.
Lynn also asked for continued prayer for their son and the situation in the Middle East.
Continue to pray for Betty Orme and Lindsay Arlt and their cancer treatments. Lindsay should have finished her 6th series of treatments today.
Pray for the Labor Day outreach at our Celebration in the Park event next Sunday. There will be many unsaved attending and hearing the gospel. Pray for their salvation.
Jim W asks us to pray for their daughter and son-in-law as they drive to Yuma to take up their new jobs. Also pray for Angela to follow up on her decision to accept Christ and that she will find good Christian support in Texas.
Marilyn D asked us to pray for friends Gladys and Alva for the loss of their only child (a son).
Marilyn asked also us to help with patterns for a 7 year old girl with parental problems. Marilyn will be making school clothing. Pray for this little girl during this troublesome time.
Pray for David Spradling (our missionary to Jewish people in Cincinnati). He will have surgery to remove part of his large intestine September 5th.

Birthday
  • Carole S – Aug. 29
Anniversary
  • Jensen – Aug. 29
  • Scheffler – Aug. 31
  • Johnson – Sept. 1

Guess Who #7

The last one was apparently much tougher than I expected. It was Ozella.

Now we have another one for you to test your cognitive skills. Check below and see how you can do with this one. So far, this one is proving to be easy. I will post a tougher one next. Look for it on Monday!
