Ambassadors Notes – October 24, 2007

I want to thank Sandy for taking good notes and sending out our email earlier this week. Most of what you see here is simply a compilation of her emails plus something from Barb B. I did make some additions just to keep you on your toes. If you don't read all the way to the bottom, you will regret it!

Prayer Items:

  • Join Rudy and Hallie S in prayer for their daughter Shelah this week. Pray especially that the doctor will find what is causing Shelah's pain and fatigue. Her insurance company doesn't want to pay for a CT scan. Shelah has continued in her teaching and administrative duties at Liberty but it is very difficult for her.
  • Dan G and Betty O need our continued prayers as they undergo chemotherapy this week. Debbie Hume is from our church but not from our class, however she needs prayer as she is going through serious cancer treatments.
  • David D returned to Iraq this week to a dangerous area. Thanks for praying for David and his parents and grandparents (Dave and Barb in our class).
  • Michael P will also be returning to Iraq with his Marine unit in the near future and needs our prayers as well.
  • Weiss' daughter and son-in-law are, Jamie and Art are getting settled in their new home in Yuma, Arizona. It was delightful to hear that people on the same plane with Jamie told her about their church and encouraged her about life in Yuma! It is always a blessing to hear stories like that.
  • Lindsay was in the hospital on Tuesday for blood. At that time it appeared doubtful that she would be ready for her scheduled treatments starting this Friday because of her low blood counts. Please pray for her.
  • Continue to pray for the pastors in Vietnam. Russ has returned safely with a good report. Pray for two of the pastors who were ordered in for questioning.

Samaritan Purse Project:
Please let us know (either Sandy, me or Barb Burkard) if you plan to participate by making a shoebox for Samaritan's purse. We also need to know if you are interested in getting together for breakfast on Sat. a.m. the 10th to finish up our boxes and wrapping them so they can be delivered by that next Tuesday. Last time was that most people got everything for their own boxes and we just brought different kinds of hard candy and suckers not chocolate and we shared those to finish up our boxes. A few of us brought wrapping paper and we wrapped the gifts together. I believe Barb passed out pamphlets last Sunday to tell what you can put in the boxes.
Please let us know if you want to participate this way or just want to bring your box to church that Sunday! (You don't have to do a box! It is voluntary)
If you have extra things (pencils, erasers, etc., that you would like to share you can bring those things. Perhaps one of the best things you can put in a box are little flashlights with extra batteries. There are good suggestions on the pamphlet.
The idea is to pack a shoebox for a boy or girl of a certain age and those are distributed by Samaritan's Purse. They put in literature for the places where they are distributing them. This has been a great evangelistic tool for SP.
Samaritan's purse asks for a donation of $7.00 for each box and we can put that all together and take it when we deliver the boxes. You can write a check to Samaritan's Purse or donate by e-mail at the address on the pamphlet.
If anyone has big rubber bands that will go around a shoe box please let me know....otherwise we will buy some.

Ethics Conference at Cedarville:
Dennis has invited anyone who can to attend the ethics conference at Cedarville beginning Thursday night with a presentation titled "Stem Cells, Cloning, and the Holy Grail".

You can attend that session and or the ones on Friday at 9 and 3:45 in the ENS (Engineering, Nursing, and Science) building, Room #245 without registering. However, you can register, pay $15.00 and go to all the different workshops and enjoy lunch as well.
You may register by going to cedarville.edu/bioethics

AM Service:
Pastor Kisner continued the "in-depth" series of "E-Verbs" (E standing for Eternity). After lessons on Creation and Judgement he preached this week on Redemption and it was a wonderful message. The E-Verb this week was "Believe." Pastor pointed out that we don't believe in the promises but in God himself. He used an example of Abraham (who did not see God's promise to him fulfilled) who believed in God himself. You can listen to the sermon on the WHBC website if you missed it. Click HERE!

PM Service:
Dr Drullinger spoke last Sunday evening. He started a new series that I think is excellent. This series is called "Footsteps of the Faithful". It is kind of a character study of people in the Bible who we should be emulating. This week he discussed Enoch. He is the man who was taken to be with the Lord and did not die. Click HERE to listen to this one.

Class Activities:
November 3rd. 8:30 AM, meet at the church to carpool down to the Creation Museum together. Barb has also made a reservation for lunch/dinner, etc. at Grand Finale for those who are interested. The resevation is for 3PM.

Birthdays:
Dick O - Oct 25
Maxine H - Oct 30

Anniversaries:
Paul and Ann B - Oct 22

Guess Who?
Apparently I gave you and easy one again last week. Several people guessed this one correctly. It was Betsy. So now you deserve a tougher one.

To be careful about possible complaints, I blurred part of this photo. However, if this person gives me a rough time, I may show all!
