I'm sorry about being late with this update. There has been a lot going on this week with family, friends and the church. Then, to be honest, this skipped my elderly mind. :)

Check your email for prayer items. If you are seeing this but don't get the email, let me know and I will see that you get on our email list, if you wish.

ABF Class time:

Sunday morning was the first time our Ambassadors ABF has met in several weeks. Unfortunately, Dennis was not prepared to teach. He had planned to be out of town, then was "under the weather" and didn't travel or make it to our class. Fortunately, because of his plans, he warned me that he did not plan to teach last Sunday. So, rather than look for another teacher, I decided to cover something that was/is on my heart. We talked about what the Bible says about caring for the elderly and more specifically about how we could respond to the needs of those who are reaching a point of needing more care. I titled my presentation/discussion "Elder-Care".

The Bible does have something to say about our responsibilities to parents and those in need. As we discussed those first responsible for caring for the elderly are family. However, often those who need care are remote from their family or perhaps the family does not step up to their responsibilities. I believe the scriptures do make a strong case for our need to help our "brothers and sisters in Christ".

You can read the following to see what the Bible has to say:

  • 1 Tim 5:4 & 8
  • Philippians 2:4
  • Lev 19:32
  • Psalm 92:13-14
We decided we could assist in the following areas:

  • Minister to shut-ins
  • Counseling
    Financial
    Health care
    Legal
  • Transportation
  • Repair services
  • Health care services (i.e.; Nurse referral)
  • Social activities
We do provide for many or all of these in one way or another but generally this is done by a few individuals for only a few. This is pretty much ad-hoc without an organization behind it. We do call on people in the hospitals and nursing homes and our "Young at Heart" ministry handles the social activities very well. I believe there is a strong need to have an organized effort behind some of these support activities using people in our church to minister to the elderly in our church family.

By the way, everyone can help in some way. Even those who are shut-ins can PRAY.

Don't panic! I am not proposing that we initiate the items above in total at one time but we can start doing some of this (or all) on a small basis and grow into something larger as our church and facilities also grow.

At the end of our class session, I announced that I am the new Pastor to the Senior Adults. I have come to really love these people during the time since my retirement five years ago and am happy to have a way to be more involved.

Next week Dennis promises to return and continue his teaching. We all look forward to hearing him again and our fellowship together.

Sunday Services:

Sunday morning Pastor Kisner spoke about being "Followers of Christ". Then, Sunday evening Pastor McGhee continued his previous sermon about Barnabas. You can find links to these sermons HERE.

Guess Who?

I guess the last one below must be a really difficult one. I did get a correct answer and several others are trying to figure this one out. Get in on the act and see if you recognize this young lady.

I don't have any more photos to post, so maybe this idea has run its course. If you do have something and want to try to stump the class, give it to me and I will scan it and post it for everyone to see. Of course, they don't all have to be something to "Guess" about because they can even be something humorous or a fun memory.
